Chinatown (Yaowarat) is located about 27km from Bangkok Airport (Suvarnabhumi) and there are 4 ways to get to it, i.e. shuttle bus, private transfer, public taxi, and train. Below are the details for each of the transportation options:

1. Shuttle Bus

There is no direct bus to Chinatown from the BKK but it is the cheapest option. To transport, first travel to Victory Monument and from there, take a bus to Hua Lamphong Station which is just 10-15 15-minute walk from Chinatown. Here are the travel details:

  1. Take a direct bus from the Suvarnabhumi Airport straight to Victory Monument. The bus is located on the level 1 of the terminal.
  2. After reaching Victory Monument, take a bus to Hua Lamphong Station which is located just 10-15 minute walk from Chinatown. Bus number 29 is the direct bus from here.

Below are the details of taking the bus:

  • Cost: THB 30 from the BKK to the Victory Monument and THB 15 to Hua Lamphong Station per person
  • Travel duration: 50-120 minutes
  • Seating accommodation: AC, comfortable seat
  • Suitable for: Passengers with at most 2 luggage
  • Additional information: The bus leaves every 30-35 mins from the Airport and every 15 minutes from Victory Monument.

2. Private Transfer

Private transfer is the most expensive transportation option of all, but also the best in our opinion due to comfort, privacy, and door-to-door transportation service. There are various private transfer companies to choose from and each offers various options, such as Sedan cars, vans, or even luxury limousines. You can either book these directly from the BKK or search online for the one that suits your budget and requirements.

Below are the details of taking the private transfer:

  • Cost: THB 900 – THB 1,800 per trip
  • Travel duration: 35-50 minutes
  • Seating accommodation: AC, comfortable seat with privacy
  • Suitable for: All types of passengers
  • Additional information: The service includes everything, making it a hassle-free and seamless travel experience.

3. Public Taxi

Public taxi is the most preferred choice due to the affordable travel cost and door-to-door service, just like the private transfer. Taxis can be taken directly from the Suvarnabhumi, located at the taxi on level 1 of the airport terminal.

Below are the details of taking the public tax:

  • Cost: THB 400 – THB 600 per trip, excluding toll taxes
  • Travel duration: 40-50 minutes
  • Seating accommodation: AC, comfortable seat with privacy
  • Suitable for: 2-4 passengers with 2-5 luggage.
  • Additional information: Public taxis operate on a metered basis. So avoid the one that refuses to use the meter as it’s one of the common scams in Thailand.

4. Train

Just like the bus, there is no direct train to Yaowarat from Suvarnabhumi Airport. To transport, first travel to Phaya Thai BTS Station using the Airport Rail Link (ARL). Then from there, take the bus number 40 to go straight to Chinatown.

Below are the details of taking the train:

  • Cost: THB 45 for the train and THB 15 for the bus
  • Travel duration: 30 minutes to Phaya Thai Station, 45 minutes to for the bus.
  • Seating accommodation: AC, less comfortable seat with less space.
  • Suitable for: Passengers with at most 2 luggage
  • Additional information: The ARL is located on the B floor of the terminal and leaves every 15 minutes.
